Patna: In a new turn in the worsening relationship between Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi over the months, VHP has decided to drag the state BJP government to the National Human Rights Commission for allegedly violation of human rights of its activist.
VHP has alleged Narendra Modi and his administration for violating human rights.
The immediate reason for this “radical” stand is said to be the arrest of Ashwin Patel, the state VHP general secretary few days back by the Gandhi Nagar police on the charges of fomenting communal tension and defaming Modi by circulating SMSs.
According to the police Patel has been doing these things since last three months. He is said to have used forged documents to get a SIM card.
He has been sent to police custody till November 1 by a Gandhi Nagar court.
The VHP has not taken the issue lightly.
Ranchhod Bharwad, VHP state secretary pointed out that Patel’s arrest is a clear case of human rights violation. He informed the VHP is going to approach the NHRC in this concern. It will also initiate legal action against the police and the state government for what it considers the violation of human rights.
It should be noted, however, that the VHP never accused the Modi administration of human rights violation even for the ethnic cleansing of Muslims during Gujarat pogrom 2002.
The reason for this may be the estranged relationship between the BJP and VHP in Gujarat. Both VHP and BJP are members of Sangh Parivar. The current crisis of relationship between the two is not very old though. VHP has always been backing and extending support to the Modi administration through its grass-root network and workers.
VHP had refused to extend its help to Modi during the last state elections which Modi won on his own.
