London : British Premier Gordon Brown has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressing his shock at the bomb blasts in Assam Thursday.
“I was deeply shocked and saddened to hear the reports today of the terrorist attacks in Assam, which have left so many dead and injured. There can be no justification for such violence against innocent people,” Brown said.
“My thoughts are with the families and friends of all those involved, and also with you and the Indian government at this difficult time. We stand ready to help in any way we can,” he added.
Foreign Minister David Miliband condemned the blasts saying they are “a terrible reminder of the threat from violent extremism.”
“I condemn unreservedly all such acts of terrorism. My thoughts are with the victims of today’s attacks, and with their families. The UK and India will continue to work closely together to counter the shared threat from terrorism,” Miliband added.
At least a dozen blasts rocked the north-eastern state Thursday and the death toll Friday rose to 77 with more than 300 others wounded.
