New Delhi : A 25-year-old man and his parents were arrested here for allegedly killing his wife for dowry, police said Friday.
Sanjeet Singh, his parents – Baljeet and Nirmala – were arrested for stabbing Anju Rani to death in their Nangloi home Wednesday evening. Singh is a real estate agent and runs a primary school in the same area.
Baljeet is a peon in a municipal office in the capital.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Delhi) Sharad Aggarwal said Anju’s in-laws wanted to re-marry their son, so they decided to eliminate her.
Anju’s could not give birth to a child as her uterus was removed during her earlier childbirth. The accused were demanding Rs.1 million in dowry from the victim’s father Satyawan Singh, who works with ministry of external affairs.
“On Wednesday, Nirmala and her daughter Meena killed Anju Rani by inflicting multiple stab injuries with knives while she was cooking food in the kitchen,” Aggarwal said.
The police said Meena was still absconding.
