Congress seeks Orissa chief minister’s resignation

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Congress Monday sought Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s resignation, accusing him of failing to control communal violence in the state.

“The Orissa government should take moral and constitutional responsibility of the ongoing violence in the state and the chief minister should step down from office as he has failed to control violence in the state,” Congress spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan said.

The party also demanded a Central bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the killing of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Swami Lakshmanananda Saraswati Aug 23 and the subsequent violence.

“People have no faith in the investigations ordered by the state government. We demand the investigations be handed over to CBI as there is a complete breakdown of law and order in the state,” Natarajan said.
