By NNN-KUNA,

Damascus : A summit grouping top leaders of Syria, Turkey, France and Qatar will be held in the Syrian capital on Thursday to address some of the region’s crucial issues, a local daily newspaper said in its Monday edition.

“Al-Watan” said the top-level meeting will group the Syrian, French and Turkish presidents, as well as the Qatari Amir, Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, and will discuss some of the regional issues namely conditions in Lebanon, Iraq, the Palestinian territories, the Turkish-mediated Syrian-Israeli talks and the Iranian nulear issue.

The summit will coincide with a visit to Syrian by French President Nikolas Sakozy starting on Thursday, that would follow a long period of strained ties between Paris and Damascus since assassination of the former prime minister of Lebanon, Rafic Al-Hariri.
Sarkozy has shown willingness to play a role in mending fences between Syria and the political leadership in Lebanon.

Qatar has mediated a conciliation accord among the Lebanese factions that followed street fighting.
