Tehran : The Islamic Republic of Iran and Iraq held a meeting here to pursue agreements already reached between the two sides on expansion of border cooperation.
The meeting was held to follow up the agreements signed by the two countries last year.
According to the Information and Press Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the meeting Monday, the two sides discussed ways of removing existing problems concerning joint land and water borders based on the 1975 accord and its enclosed protocol, making use of technical and executive mechanisms envisioned in the accord and implementing the agreements signed by the two countries.
Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Mohammad-Ali Hosseini and his Iraqi counterpart Haj Mahmoud co-chaired the meeting.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides discussed demarcation of border signs along joint land borders, holding seminars to ensure coordination between the two sides’ border guards, dredging the Arvand river and drawing up a working plan.
The meeting started on Saturday and ended Monday.
