Paes gains eight places in ATP rankings

New Delhi : Following his fine run at the US Open, India’s Leander Paes’ moved up eight places to the eighth spot in the men’s doubles ranking on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) charts.

Paes along with Zimbabwean Cara Black won mixed doubles title and finished runners-up in the men’s doubles event with partner Lukas Dlouhy of the Czech Republic.

Mahesh Bhupathi too has moved a place and is now at 11th position. Bhupathi and Bahamian Mark Knowles lost in the pre-quarter finals in the men’s doubles event at the US Open.

Among other Indians, Prakash Amritraj has fallen three placed to 220th and rising talent Somdev Devvarman has fallen one place to 244th spot.

In the singles rankings, Roger Federer despite winning his fifth straight US open title is still at second place behind Spaniard Rafael Nadal, who lost to Briton Andy Murray in the semi-final. Serbian Novak Djokovic is steady at the third position.

Murray after his maiden final appearance in a Grand Slam event, which he won as a junior in 2002, climbed up two places to the fourth spot.
