New Delhi: Former president of Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind has demanded immediate suspension of DIG and SP for failing to check communal violence in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh.

Only transfer of such officers does not work and that?s why district administration is not active in checking communal violence, said Maulana Arshad Madani, according to a news report in the Urdu daily Rashtriya Sahara.

He said that in the presence of police officers, the anti-social elements beat up Muslims and broke into their homes and shops.

The Maulana has warned that if communal forces are not contained in time, they will exploit the situation in elections. He expressed concern over rising incidents of communal violence in the country. He also demanded suspension of the SHO of Kaptanganj police station and other officials who did not do much to check the violence.
