Twin explosions hit Israel-Gaza border fence

By Xinhua,

Jerusalem : Two explosions went off Thursday near Israeli patrols at the border with the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, causing no injuries, said Israeli army.

The first blast occurred on the security fence, causing damage to the barrier, a spokeswoman of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) told Xinhua, adding that the second blast happened nearby minutes later and caused no damage.

The incident marks the second of its kind since an Egypt-brokered Gaza truce went into effect in mid-June. A similar attack attempt happened on Sept. 2, which resulted in no injuries or damage, said the spokeswoman.

No decision has been made on whether or how to respond to the attacks, she added.

The truce, which calls on the Jewish state and the Gazan militants to cease the use of violence, has worked largely well so far, although the two sides have accused each other of sporadic violations.

In response to previous violations by the Palestinian militants, mainly rocket attacks, Israel normally shut down the border crossings, temporarily halting the supplies of goods into the poverty-stricken Palestinian enclave.
