Ramesh Hanumant Gadkari (50) Vikram Vinay Bhawe (26), Mangesh Dinkar Nikam (34) Shantosh Sitaram Angre (26) Dr. Hemant Tukaram Chalke (37) and Haribhau Krishna Divekar were arrested by the police three months earlier on different dates.

They were arrested in connection with a bomb blast at a cinema hall in Panvel screening the movie ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ and for planting bombs in Thane auditorium staging the Marathi play ‘Aamhi Panchpute,’ says a report in the Urdu daily Inquilab.

They are alleged to have been associated with Hindutva extremist organizations Sanatan Sanstha and Hindu Janjagruti Samiti.

According to the police Ramesh Hanumant Gadkari who has diploma in electronic engineering from Pune had very important role to play in both the blasts, besides the rest of the accused who played an instrumental role in engineering the blasts.

B.B. Rathore, the ATS officer who is handling the case, said that on the basis of statements of 195 witnesses, a charge sheet of 1020 pages has been filed against these accused in the Majgaon Court No. 2.

He pointed out that the accused have been charged under the different Acts of IPC including the Unlawful Prevention Activities Act and other Acts which include the acts of terror, conspiracy to explode bomb, and to collect the explosives.

During the investigations in last two months the ATS has found various proofs which point towards the involvement of the accused in the terror activities.

For instance, ATS seized large amount of explosives including a time bomb in a raid at the native places of Mangesh Dinkar Nikam and Vikram Vinay Bhawe.

ATS also seized a diary which had the master plan and the strategy of how to explode the bombs in the “Gadkari Rangaaeen” theatre.

Mr. Rathore said ATS is also investigating about the sources from which Hindutva organizations like Hindu Janjagruti Samiti, Sanatan Sansthan and Guru Kripa Sansthan get their funding and financial help.

He further said that whether these organizations should be banned or not will only be decided by the higher officials.
