Islamabad : Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza on Saturday assumed responsibilities as Acting President of Pakistan, as both President Asif Ali Zardari and Senate Chairman Mohammadmian Soomro are abroad.
Dr Mirza took the charge under Article (2) 49 of the Constitution, under which she will hold the office till the return of any of the two dignitaries.
Dr Mirza is the first woman in the country’s history, performing her duties as Acting President.
President Zardari is on a private visit to Dubai, while Chairman Senate Soomro is in Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.
