New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday asked the government to clarify if the home ministry had shot down National Security Advisor (NSA) M.K. Narayanan’s suggestion for state specific anti-terror laws.
“We want the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government to clarify if M.K. Narayanan’s demand to approve state specific anti-terror laws was rejected,” BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy told reporters here.
Rudy also raised objections to the second Administrative Reform Commission’s report released Tuesday by Congress leader and chairman of the commission, M. Veerappa Moily.
While Rudy expressed happiness over Moily’s recommendation for a strong anti-terror law, he refuted the commission’s suggestion for a federal anti-terror agency. “We believe that in the absence of a strict anti-terror law, this agency is of no use,” Rudy told reporters here.
The ARC has also suggested that a special cell in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) should look into terror related issues. “Under the UPA government and with a record like the Quattrochi trial and the fodder scam, the CBI does not have the necessary credentials to handle such cases,” Rudy maintained.
Besides Gujarat, other BJP-ruled states like Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan had urged the home ministry for state-specific anti-terror laws on lines of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crimes Act (MCOCA).
