Bhopal : The Madhya Pradesh government Tuesday decided to set up its own anti-terrorism squad.
The decision, source said, was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan late Tuesday evening.
“Taking a serious view of the terrorist activities in the country the cabinet decided to set up a state level anti terrorism squad and create 188 new posts for the same,” said the official.
“The government is alert about the recent rise in terrorist activities. Madhya Pradesh is considered sensitive in this regard because of strong SIMI (Students Islamic Movement in India) network in its western part. It is imperative to further strengthen security particularly in view of the terrorist attacks on religious, commercial and strategically important places,” a home ministry official told IANS.
“The constitution of the squad, with special professional competence, is aimed at exposing and destroying the inter state and international network of terrorists,” he said.
Its functions would also include identification of sensitive spots after overall analysis, developing linkages, compilation and analysis of information, legal action and investigation of terrorist incidents and help in prosecution.
Of the total 188 new posts to be created for the squad, three would be of superintendents of police, nine deputy superintendent of police, 13 inspectors, 13 sub inspectors, 11 stenographer, 54 head constables and 62 constables.
An expenditure of Rs.35 million would entail on the salary-allowance of the squad.
