Tijuana (Mexico) : At least 19 inmates have been found dead following a riot in Mexico’s La Mesa state prison, Spain’s EFE news agency reported Thursday.
The state prosecutor’s office said 19 bodies were found at the infirmary of the La Mesa state prison.
According to the authorities clashes broke out Wednesday when inmates ransacked a few government buildings in the prison complex.
The inmates were angry after they were denied food since Sunday as disciplinary measure by the authorities for another riot in the prison a few days ago.
Governor Jose Guadalupe Osuna has sacked the prison warden and two other officials, holding them responsible for the deaths.
Meanwhile, the case is being investigated.
