Bhopal : At least 18 bonded labourers were Friday rescued by the police from a doctor’s farmhouse in a village here.
Police conducted a raid at the farmhouse in Gunga village owned by a sexologist identified as Sahni and his son Sameer and freed the labourers. The raid was carried out at the farmhouse called Sahni Agriculture Farms on a complaint by Amar Singh and Bhuralal Ahirwar, both residents of Agaria village.
“They (the labourers) were paid a meagre sum of Rs.1,000 per month, from which the cost of their food and medical expenses were also deducted. Held in captivity for the past several years, they were also not allowed to interact with anyone outside the farmhouse,” a police official said.
The labourers will be shifted to rehabilitation centres and the doctor and son have been booked, the official added.
