New Delhi : Police in this capital are investigating attacks that caused 30 deaths, and Saturday apprehended one of the possible terrorists, who ran away after a confrontation.
A Special Police commando fought against five individuals Friday in an apartment in Jamia Nagar, New Delhi, and two of the suspects died, a third was arrested and the other two escaped, but one of them was arrested Saturday.
Mohand Chand Sharma, who led the operation against the ones identified as Islamic members of group Indian Mujahideen, died from bullet wounds he received in the incident.
One of the slain attackers named Atif, 24 years old, was described as one of the main chiefs of the Islamic group, playing a significant role in the sabotages of Uttar Pradesh and Hyderabad last year, and in Ahmedabad, Jaipur and New Delhi in the last months.
The arrested attackers confessed they had participated in putting the bombs, said TV news Times Now.
The authorities now seek 10 individuals brought by Atif to New Delhi on July 27, a day after the bombs exploded in Ahmadabad.
The appearance of the cell of possible terrorists surprised the investigators, said The Times of India.
Abu Bashir, arrested after the attacks in Ahmedabad, and Abbus Subban, an ally of Safdar Nagori, head of the India Islamic Student Movement, are suspected as the brains behind these attacks.
