Beijing : Forty-three people were killed and 88 others injured in a fire at a club in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen, bordering Hong Kong, on Saturday night.
The fire was sparked by fireworks lit during a performance, watched by hundreds of people, on the third floor of the club named “King of Dancers” in Longgang District, China’s Xinhua News Agency said.
Fifty-one of the injured have been admitted to hospital.
Xinhua said most of the injured were from among the audience and the fire that occurred at about 11 pm had been put out.
