Lucknow : The Lucknow University has finalised arrangements to confer a Doctor of Literature degree (Honorary doctorate) on President Pratibha Patil, who will visit the varsity Sep 23, officials said Monday.
Besides the President, LU, one of the country’s largest residential universities, will also felicitate two of its illustrious alumni, former Banaras Hindu University (BHU) vice-chancellor R.P. Rastogi and Chandrashekhar Rath, a well-known literary figure from Orissa, officials added.
“Patil will be third president who will attend a convocation ceremony at LU,” proctor A.N. Singh told IANS.
“Earlier, V.V. Giri and Giani Zail Singh had attended the convocation organised by LU,” he added.
According to officials, owing to security reasons LU has granted permission to only 800- odd students to attend the convocation ceremony.
“There are over 40,000 students enrolled with LU. However, taking into account the security factor, about 800 students, mainly girls, have been allowed to attend the convocation ceremony,” said Singh.
The President will felicitate 17 students of the varsity during the convocation, officials said.
