Cousin of Delhi blast ‘mastermind’ detained

New Delhi : Sleuths of the Delhi Police Special Cell Tuesday detained for questioning Shakib Akthar, a cousin of Atif Ameen, the alleged mastermind of the Sep 13 blasts who was killed in a shootout last Friday.

Police officials said Akthar was picked up from his Shaheen Bagh residence in south Delhi in the afternoon to verify certain facts pertaining to the probe into the serial bomings Sep 13.

At least 24 people were killed and 124 injured in the blasts.

On Sep 18, police raided a Jamia Nagar house and gunned down Atif, 24, and his accomplice Sajid in a shootout.

Akthar was being questioned at the Lodhi Road office of the Special Cell.

Delhi Police say Atif was the mastermind of the blasts and chief of Indian Mujahideen that has claimed responsibility for several terror strikes in the country in last two years.

Delhi Police teams also conducted raids in various parts of the national capital region, including a college in Faridabad, whose administration reportedly refused to cooperate with them.
