Srinagar : Unidentified people hurled a hand grenade at the house of a senior religious leader in Srinagar Tuesday evening. No one was injured.
Police here said the attackers tossed a grenade inside the house of Moulvi Showkat, the Amir (chief) of Jamait-e-Ahle Hadis, a religious organization, in the Lal Bazaar area of the city, 5 km from city centre Lal Chowk.
“The grenade exploded inside the compound of Moulvi Showkat’s house, shattering window panes of the house. The Moulvi was not inside his house when the attack occurred. However, his family members were inside and all of them are safe,” a police official said.
“Investigations are on to catch the culprits,” a senior police officer told IANS here.
The Jamait-e-Ahle Hadis also runs a number of educational institutions in the Valley.
