London : Comeback fast bowler Steve Harmison and his former England teammate Marcus Trescothick are among four nominees for the Professional Cricketers Association (PCA) Player of the Year award.
Harmison, who has shed a few kilos in his bid to regain his form, has been a key performer for Durham. New England captain Kevin Pietersen goaded him to come out of limited-overs international retirement and he played a major role in England winning the One-Day series against South Africa.
Opening batsman Trescothick has been instrumental in Somerset’s pursuit of the County Championship title, though the left-hander has publicly acknowledged the anxiety attacks and depression that dogged his career.
Essex all-rounder Ravi Bopara and Kent’s Kolpak batsman Martin van Jaarsveld were also in the running for the Player of the Year award.
Bopara has also been shortlisted for the young player of the year award, along with Kent batsman Joe Denly, Nottinghamshire and England bowler Stuart Broad, and Yorkshire’s Tim Bresnan.
The winners will be voted by PCA members, and the awards ceremony will be held in London Monday.
