Lucknow : A fleet of spacious, low ground buses, equipped with plasma TV and FM radio will ply in the state capital from October — only for the senior citizens and the physically challenged, officials said Thursday.
The service is an initiative of the state-owned Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC).
“A fleet of specially designed buses for the convenience of senior citizens and handicapped will be introduced from October,” said Desh Deepak Verma, principal secretary transport.
“The new buses will be more spacious and have low ground floor. The buses will also have plasma TV and FM radio to entertain passengers,” Verma added.
According to officials, initially about 50 such buses would run in the state capital.
Later, the service would be expanded to include inter-district and inter-state routes, officials added.
At present, about 7,000 buses of UPSRTC ply in the state, as well as in neighbouring states, including Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar.
