11 injured as two blasts rock southwestern Pakistani city: Police

Islamabad : Two blasts rocked busy markets in a southwestern Pakistani city on Sunday, injuring at least 11 people, police and witnesses said.

A low intensity of Improvised Explosive Device bomb exploded in a music CDs market at a famous shopping center in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, police said.

The blast destroyed several CD shops at Asif Plaza, police and owners said.

No group claimed responsibility for the blasts.

A group called ‘Lashkar-e-Islam’ (Islamic army) had warned owners of music market to stop business of music CDs, shopkeepers said.

Police said the second blast was caused by gas cylinder at Daud Shopping Plaza. But some people at the scene said they did not see any exploded cylinder and said that explosives may have caused by explosives.

Police said the two blasts happened within five minutes duration.

There was crowd at both places as people were in busy in shopping centers, witnesses said.

Doctors said that three injured are in critical condition. The injured were taken to the Quetta City Hospital and private hospitals.

Owners of the CDs market said that the police had been informed after they received threats from the group but they were not provided any security.

They said a bomb had also been defused in the same market, adding that the police should have taken security measures.

The CD market is the biggest in the province which supply CDs to other cities and also to neighbouring Afghanistan.

The authorities put police and other security agencies are on high alert after the blasts.
