New Delhi : One of the three men accused of killing TV journalist Soumya Vishwanathan Wednesday alleged that he was being tortured by the police, following which a city court asked the Tihar Jail superintendent to file a medical report on him Saturday.

Ravi Kapoor filed an application before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kiran Bansal alleging physical torture in judicial custody, leading to a fracture in his leg. The accused told the court March 28 as well that he was being tortured.

Magistrate Bansal asked the Tihar Jail superintendent to appear in person Saturday to file the medical report.

The court extended the judicial custody of Kapoor and the other accused – Amit Kumar Shukla and Baljit Malik – in the Soumya murder case.

Soumya, a journalist working with a TV news channel, was found shot dead in her car on the Nelson Mandela Marg in the wee hours of Sep 30 last year while returning home from work. The trio are also accused of murdering IT executive Jigisha Ghosh March 17 night.

Metropolitan Magistrate Sourav Pratap Singh Laler, meanwhile, allowed the police plea seeking two days’ custodial interrogation of the three for Jigisha’s killing.

The police said their interrogation was required to recover various objects, including Jigisha’s debit and credit cards, and the goods purchased by the three using her cards.

Jigisha was allegedly kidnapped on the intervening night of March 17-18 from outside her residence in Vasant Vihar. The trio are said to have smothered her to death and later dumped her body in Surajkund area in Haryana.
