Lucknow : Gorakh Prasad Jaiswal, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Lok Sabha candidate from Deoria in Uttar Pradesh, has been booked for violating the election model code of conduct by holding a campaign meeting in a temple complex, an official said Tuesday.

“A case has been registered against Jaiswal for holding the meeting,” Jayant Dixit, the Kushinagar additional district magistrate, told IANS on telephone. The temple is located in Fazilnagar in Kushinagar, some 300 km from here.

The meeting Saturday by the BSP candidate was to be held at a community centre in Ahroli village. But Jaiswal chose the religious site.

“The case against Jasiwal was registered Monday night following the directives of the district administration,” said police inspector Mathura Rai.
