Hooch tragedy: police announce reward for clues

By IANS,

New Delhi : Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal Wednesday announced a reward of Rs.100,000 for those helping unearth the source of spurious illicit liquor that has claimed at least 30 lives in two months.

“Strenuous efforts were made by the police to prevent and detect this illegal trade but even then it is suspected that a large stock of spurious liquor is still undetected,” assistant commissioner of police (headquarters) Mohan Singh Bais said here.

“The commissioner of police has announced a cash reward of Rs.100,000 for any one who gives any information or clue or renders any help leading to the unearthing of the source of adulteration or manufacture of the illicit liquor,” Bais added.

At least 12 people have died in the past one week after consuming hooch in Raghuvir Nagar and Vishnu Garden areas of west Delhi. Local people, however, said the death toll could be as high as 20.

The police have so far registered 12 cases and suspended its 15 personnel including the station house officer and two sub-inspectors of the Khyala police station.

Last month police suspended some of its personnel when over a dozen people died after consuming spurious liquor in southwest Delhi.
