Ghaziabad : A Pakistani national who had been staying here since 1965 after she married a Indian national was arrested for trying to obtain an Indian passport on forged documents, police said Friday.
Amina Khatoon, a resident of Lahore in Pakistan, was living in the Nahal area of Ghaziabad since 1965, police said.
Khatoon’s father Ali Hasan had shifted to Pakistan in 1952 and in 1958 brought his wife and daughter Khatoon with him to Pakistan. After Hasan’s death, Khatoon and her mother, both Pakistani passport holders, came to India on on a three month tourist visa, the police said.
Khatoon married Mahmood in Ghaziabad and obtained a long term visa. After her mother’s death, to avoid legalities and returning to Pakistan, she forged her documents showing her date of birth as 1957 instead of 1952 and changing her name on the documents from Amina Khatoon to Amna Khatoon.
The forgery came to light when the documents reached the local intelligence unit of the police for examination.
“She has confessed to forging of documents and also admitted that she was helped by a broker named Mirza,” police officer Devraj Singh said.
“Amina, the mother of two daughters and two sons who are India citizens, was arrested under various sections of the IPC and the Passport Act. We have also named Mirza as the co-accused in the case but he is absconding,” he added.
