Patna : Suspected Maoist rebels Thursday afternoon attacked a second polling station in Bihar during the first phase of Lok Sabha elections, police said. The attack took place in Rohtas district, while the earlier attack was in Gaya district where two security personnel were killed.
Rohtas Superintendent of Police Vikas Vaibhav said that more than 50 armed Maoist rebels attacked a polling station at Koriari in Rohtas, some 150 km from Patna.
“The Maoist attack was being countered by the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on duty,” Vaibhav said.
“Till now no casualty was reported,” he added.
Maoists attacked a BSF camp early Wednesday in Rohtas. At about 1 a.m. Wednesday, over 100 Maoists, armed with rocket launchers, attacked a BSF camp in Bhansa Ghati in Rohtas district.
Though the BSF reported no casualties, police said over half a dozen guerrillas were believed to have been killed in the counter-attack.
Earlier Thursday in Gaya, policeman Vishambhar Choudhary and home guard Ramdeo Khair were killed in a Maoist attack on a polling station. Two women voters in the queue were injured and had to be taken to hospital. The rebels also looted an electronic voting machine (EVM) and four rifles.
