New Delhi: Speaking in a meeting held in Behat in Saharanpur, U. P. to discuss ‘Shar’yee Status of Vote and Our Responsibility’, Maulana Mukarram Jamal Mozahri said: “Numerous candidates belonging to various political parties, religions and ideologies are contesting in ongoing parliamentary elections. Therefore, it is necessary for us to use our voting right in a positive way.”
Maulana Matloob Hasan Nadwi argued: “A voter, in fact, witnesses that the candidate deserves to be a national representative both by virtue of his talent and ability and intelligence and integrity. Now, if this witness concerns any of his individual rights, its benefit or loss accrues to him for which he himself is responsible. But this is not the case here.”
Ghufran Anjum said: “Most of Muslims do not use their rights to vote, being puzzled whom to vote. Because contesting candidates do not happen to be a justified candidate.” He further argued: “But there is a principle of Fiqh to choose the lesser evil (Ahwanul Baliyyatain) wherever option are closed and there is no way out but to accept one or the other harm. So, in this case, if we do not vote, we shall be held responsible for not bringing a lesser injurer in power, we shall also be supporting in an indirect way the party worse for the country and the Millat.”
Mazahir Anwar said: “This is a very crucial issue. Muslims need to exercise their mandate thoughtfully while discharging their Shar’yee obligation. Muslim masses need to be made aware of these facts.”
