New Delhi : Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee has disqualified Abu Ayesh Mondal, who was expelled from the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), from the membership of the house.
“The Speaker, Lok Sabha, disqualified Abu Ayesh Mondal from the membership of the house vide his order dated 27 April, 2009, under the 10th Schedule to the Constitution,” said a one-line statement issued by the speaker’s office Tuesday.
Mondal, a former legislator from Ousgram in Burdwan district, was elected to the Lok Sabha from Katwa in a by-poll in 2006.
The CPI-M accused Mondal of anti-party activities and spreading canards against the party after being denied a ticket for the Lok Sabha polls. Mondal, on the other hand, alleged that the CPI-M never showed the courtesy of officially telling him that he was not being given the party ticket.
He joined the Trinamool Congress after he was expelled from the CPI-M in March. Trinamool chief Mamta Banerjee then made him state committee vice-president.
