Ambani chopper sabotage: Police expect ‘breakthrough soon’

By IANS,

Mumbai : Mumbai police Wednesday said they expect a “breakthrough very soon” into the helicopter “sabotage” of industrialist Anil Ambani.

“The crime branch is probing all aspects related to the matter and we have recorded the versions of several persons, including technicians and officials from Air Works India Engineering Pvt. Ltd.,” Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Rakesh Maria told mediapersons.

Based on the information and other investigations, the police have surmised the exact timing and the location where the “sabotage” of Ambani’s 13-seater Bell 412 chopper took place last Thursday, the evening before he was scheduled to fly in it.

“From the recorded statements of all the persons so far, the police are confident that the probe is progressing in the right direction. We hope to make a breakthrough very soon,” Maria said.

Asked about the alleged suicide of aircraft technician and Air Works employee Bharat Borge, Maria made it clear that “he (Borge) was always considered a witness and never a suspect” in this case.

He also said the Mumbai police are not investigating Borge’s death. He emphasized that the Borge case is being probed by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Mumbai police have nothing to do with it.

“We are solely concerned with the investigations into the helicopter tampering incident, not with the death of the aircraft technician,” Maria said.
