Lucknow : The Congress is set for a revival in Uttar Pradesh and will win at least 20 seats from the state in Lok Sabha polls, central minister and party candidate Sri Prakash Jaiswal said Thursday.
“This time the Congress is certainly going to expand and revive itself in the state,” Minister of State for Home Jaiswal told reporters after casting his vote at the Pokarpur polling booth in Kanpur, from where he is seeking re-election.
The Congress leader said he was confident of winning the Kanpur seat.
“Public is very well aware of the developmental schemes initiated by our party in Kanpur and other places in the country. They will definitely keep this in mind while voting and would support us,” said Jaiswal.
The Congress ruled the country’s most populous state for decades before its popularity went down. Of the 80 Lok Sabha seats from Uttar Pradesh, the Congress won only nine in 2004.
