Chandigarh : The proverbial Indian summer has only just begun but the heat wave is already beating people in the northern parts of the country with the mercury hovering between 40 and 45 degrees Celsius.
The maximum temperature in parts of Chandigarh, Haryana and Punjab is five to seven notches above the normal during this part of the season, according to met officials.
Hisar town in Haryana was the hottest at 45 in the region, which was five degrees above the normal, meteorological officials said. The temperature recorded at most places in Haryana was above the 40-degree mark.
Ambala town recorded 42 degrees C — 4 degrees above the normal.
Chandigarh was sizzling at 42 degrees Celsius, six degrees more than normal for the month of April.
Punjab, Ludhiana and Patiala cities recorded temperatures over 42 degrees Celsius and the temperature at Amritsar was 43, seven notches more than the normal.
No relief is foreseen.
“We expect hot weather conditions to continue in the region for the coming few days as well. Heat waves are blowing all across the region especially in the afternoon,” the duty officer at the meteorological office here told IANS.
