Maoists attack coalmine, burn two trucks in Jharkhand

By IANS,

Ranchi : Maoist rebels set two trucks ablaze and attacked a Central Coalfield Limited (CCL) mine, while enforcing a 48-hour strike in Jharkhand, police said Saturday.

Maoist rebels attacked a CCL mine near Tori Railway station in the state’s Latehar district. They set two pay-loaders there on fire.

Rebels set two trucks on fire and damaged a large number of auto-rickshaws at Patmada area of Jamshedpur, around 160 km from the state capital.

Maoists had called a 48 hour strike, from Friday, to protest the rising prices of essential commodities and alleged corruption prevailing in the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS).

The strike has evoked mixed response in the state. Long route buses were not plying and life had come to a standstill in the rural areas. However, effects of the shutdown were not visible in the urban areas.

However, coal transportation and mining activities were affected in many parts of the state due to the strike.
