Legal TV show gets good response in Kerala

By IANS,

Kochi: Got a legal query or grievance but confused who to talk to? You could do as many in Kerala are doing by calling a phone-in programme which was telecast Sunday in which high court judges are participating.

The programme “Adalat” is a phone-in programme where judges of the Kerala High Court S.R. Bannurmath and Justice Kurian Joseph are taking part.

Biju Pankaj, an official of Asianet News TV channel which is broadcasting the show, told IANS: “During the time of the telecast between 7.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. there were close to 300 calls from those who wanted to speak to the judges.”

“Since this is a recorded programme, we told all of them to call Friday between 12 noon and 1.30 p.m. The entire programme is being shot in the high court itself. Last Friday for the first episode that was telecast Sunday we received 500 calls,” Pankaj said.

Chief Justice Bannurmath said the objective of the programme is to see that legal awareness is taken to all corners of the state.

“The show is being conducted by the Kerala State Legal Service Authority. Since the media is a powerful tool, we have done this,” Bannurmath said.
