Pune: A software engineer surrendered to Pune police Monday and confessed to killing his 24-year-old female colleague, an official said.
Anmol Swaransingh Jabbal, 28, working with a US-based software company Symantec, and Shraddha Chhajed had left home for office as usual last Friday morning, Chaturshringi police station senior police inspector M. Chavan said.
“When they failed to return that evening as per normal time, their worried families lodged missing persons complaint with the police and we were inquiring into the matter,” Chavan told IANS.
Meanwhile, an unidentified body of a young woman was found from Basmat village in neighbouring Hingoli district Saturday morning. With help from Pune police, the local police confirmed that it was Shraddha’s body.
Her body had several injuries and her hair had been chopped off, making it difficult for the police to easily identify her, Chavan said.
On Monday morning, Anmol returned to Pune and surrendered to the Chaturshringi police after confessing to the crime, he added.
Though the motive behind Shraddha’s killing is not yet clear, police are inquiring whether the duo had an affair or had fallen out, Chavan said.
The police have sent the victim’s samples for forensic tests to Aurangabad and further investigations are in progress.
