Jharkhand IAS official faces graft charge

By IANS,

Ranchi : The health secretary of Jharkhand, a senior official of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), faces a corruption charge with the police filing a First Information Report (FIR) in this regard Wednesday.

The FIR was lodged against Health Secretary Pradeep Kumar and six others in connection with the appointment of indigenous doctors under a scheme known as AYUSH. More than 120 AYUSH doctors were appointed last year. Under the plan, the state government appoints doctors of Ayurveda, Yunani and Homeopathy.

“The FIR has been lodged against Dr. Pradeep Kumar and others because of a complaint by Dr. Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Jamshedpur. We will investigate the case and do the needful as per the law,” Hari Chandra Singh, officer in charge of Dornda police station in Ranchi, told IANS.

Rajesh Kumar complained that the list of AYUSH doctors was changed and his name was deleted from the new list. He believes his name went missing because he failed to pay a sum of money demanded by the officials.

Besides Pradeep Kumar, the FIR has been lodged against Jagannath Tripathy, director of AYUSH, Vijay Kumar Dutt, Siyaram Paswan, Yudeshwar Prasad and Krishnanand Prasad, all of whom are officials in the health department, plus Rajesh Kumar, a lawyer.

They have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including cheating.
