Six injured in clash over loud music in Agra

By IANS,

Agra : Six people were injured, a car was burnt and stones were thrown at shops here as an argument over the playing of loud music turned into a violent clash between two groups, police said Thursday.

The violence began at around 10 p.m. Wednesday, the eve of the Muslim festival of Shaab-e-Barat when it is believed that God writes the destinies of all men for the coming year by taking into account the deeds committed by them in the past.

Residents of the predominantly Muslim area of Mantola threw stones and bottles during the clash. Some gunshots were also fired. Police were forced to burst tear gas shells to disperse the mob. Nine people were arrested.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Braj Bhushan and District Magistrate Mritunjaya Prasad told reporters that the culprits would be booked under the stringent National Security Act (NSA).

“The situation is now under control. Efforts are on to identify the troublemakers. It was a minor incident but got blown up,” said Prasad.
