Court notice for video-link in Delhi blast trial

By IANS,

New Delhi : A city court has issued notices to jail authorities in Gujarat and Maharashtra where the Delhi serial bombing accused are lodged and asked them if court proceedings could be conducted through video-conferencing to avoid delay in shifting them.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja Friday issued notices to the jail superintendents of the two states, asking them to say whether video links could be established from their respective prisons by Aug 21.

Delhi Police had filed an application in the court stating that since the accused were not being produced in the courts despite production warrants, the jail authorities may be directed to arrange their production through video-conferencing.

Police have already filed a charge sheet against Saquib Nisar, Mohammad Saif, Zeeshan Ahmed, Zia-ur Rehman and Mohammad Shakeel for their alleged role in the Sep 13, 2008 Delhi serial blasts.

They have been accused of murder, attempt to murder and waging war against the state, besides other offences under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosive Substances Act.

According to police, all the accused in the Delhi blasts case were also involved in similar serial blasts in Jaipur and Ahmedabad.

Six blasts across the national capital last year left 26 people dead and several injured.
