Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, on Independence Day Saturday, urged the people to contribute to the state’s development by saving water and electricity.
Chouhan said development should not be seen just as the government’s responsibility, but people should come forward and do their bit too.
“There is a severe crisis of both water and electricity and hence they need to be conserved,” Chouhan said after hoisting the national flag at the Lal Parade Ground here.
The chief minister said that the people were the main power in a democracy and in Madhya Pradesh, they have been given the opportunity to participate in the implementation of government policies.
He said that Madhya Pradesh’s growth rate in 2008-09 had increased to 5.57 percent from 4.75 percent in 2007-08 at a time when the national growth rate has slumped from 9.75 percent to 6.7 percent during the corresponding period.
The chief minister spelt out seven priorities of his government – infrastructure development, turning agriculture into a profitable business, women’s empowerment, increasing investment, good governance, development of health and education facilities and better law and order – and said he was committed to fulfil them.
