Kozhikode: The Independence Day celebrations in the MES Raja Residential School at Chathamanagalam in Kozhikode began at 8 am with the recitation of Sura al Fathiha by Taha of 12th standard. The school choir also sang a prayer.
Mr Ramesh Kumar, principal of the school, hoisted the flag amid the flag song by the school choir – Jhanda ooncha rahe hamara, Vijayee viswa thiranga pyaara..
The principal, in his address, said that the Independence Day was the time to cherish memories about the freedom struggle and its leaders.
Students also delivered speeches relevant on Independence Day. Zameen, Yunus and Zoya enlightened their friends about the freedom struggle, great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, as well as the present position of India among the world countries.
Distribution of prizes followed the speeches. Students who won in the ‘Vijnanotsav’ (a quiz competition) conducted by the SIO were given trophies and certificates.
The assembly was dispersed at 8.45 am and students went to their homes and hostel.
The MES Raja Residential School is run by the Muslim Educational Society which focuses on the field of education. The organization has a number of educational institutions including engineering and medical colleges in the state.
