A joint patrol team of army troops and Special Operations Group of the state police challenged a group of militants in Lasipora village, 50 km from here, a police officer said.
“The militants started firing at the troops, resulting in an encounter at the end of which one militant identified as Jan Mohammed alias Abu Hamza of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was killed,” the police officer said.
The slain militant was from south Kashmir town of Tral and had been active for many years.
