New Delhi : For the second consecutive day Tuesday, no swine flu death was reported in the country, but 99 fresh influenza A(H1N1) virus cases were detected, taking the total number to over 2,000.
So far, 25 people have died due to swine flu in the country.
“About 10,578 people have been tested so far, of whom 2,026 are positive for influenza A(H1N1). Of the positive cases, 708 have been discharged,” according to a union health ministry statement.
Of the 99 fresh swine flu cases reported Tuesday, most were from Maharashtra.
While Mumbai had 20 fresh cases, Pune reported 18, Nashik two, Dhule and Aurangabad three each, and Kolhapur and Satara one each.
The other cities where fresh cases were reported were Bangalore (20), Delhi (10), Panchkula (2), Hyderabad (2), Kochi (2), Kozhikode (2), Ghaziabad (1), Jaipur (2), Goa (1), Udupi (1), Manipal (1), Ahmedabad (3), Surat (1), Silchar (1) and Dibrugarh (2).
While most of the cases reported Tuesday were indigenous, two people reported from Kochi had travelled abroad. In Delhi, three people and one in Hyderabad detected with the flu had travel history.
The health ministry said there has been no fresh death.
Maximum deaths have been repoerted from Pune (13), Bangalore (5), Mumbai (2), Ahmedabad (1), Chennai (1), Vadodara (1), Nasik (1) and Thiruvananthapuram (1).
Health officials said a central team is stationed in Maharashtra to assist the state government in instituting appropriate public health measures.
