New Delhi : In an emerging trend, over 90 percent kidnappings in the capital were done by people known to the victims, Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal said Wednesday.
As many as 21 abduction cases have so far been reported in the capital between January and July and in 19 of these, the accused were either friends, relatives or business partners of the victims, Dadwal told reporters.
“It is not that some professional gangs are operating in the city but in most cases abductors were known to the victims. We have worked out 19 out of the 21 cases this year while in one case, the person came back on his own,” said Dadwal.
Delhi Police have also announced a special drive to check truck drivers involved in drunken and dangerous driving.
“We will be focusing on truck drivers entering the city during night. We have registered an increase of 64.35 percent in penalising drunken drivers this year compared to the same period last year,” said Dadwal.
