Goa seeks to be part of unique ID pilot project

By IANS,

Panaji : Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has pitched to Nandan Nilekani for Goa to be included in the pilot project for the implementation of the unique identification number programme.

Speaking to reporters Thursday after his return from New Delhi Wednesday, Kamat said that during his meeting with the newly formed Unique Identification Database Authority of India (UIDAI) chairman, he had broached the idea of including Goa in the pilot project.

“He has already short-listed some districts in Karnataka for the UIDAI pilot project. I have suggested him to include the state of Goa in his list too. Some of the districts in Karnataka are as big as Goa anyway,” Kamat said.

The UIDAI envisions developing of a system through which all citizens are allotted a unique identification number by 2011.

“Mr Nilekani has invited me to meet him again on the subject when I am in Delhi next and hold discussions. If he agrees, Goa will be a part of this prestigious pilot project,” Kamat said.
