Kabul : More than 50 people were killed during Thursday’s voting in the Afghanistan presidential election, the government said after lifting the day-long reporting restriction.
Interior Minister Hanif Atmar said nine policemen and nine civilians were killed during the polling violence, with 14 police and 13 other people wounded.
In addition, eight soldiers were killed and 25 wounded, according to Defence Minister Abdul Rahim Wardak. Four suicide bombers were also killed.
In the northern province of Baghlan, 21 Taliban fighters and a district police chief had been killed in a series of clashes, a police spokesman said.
