Chandigarh : A student from a Punjab town who had come to seek admission in a leading college here was Friday arrested after 23 fake currency notes were recovered from his possession.
The student, Ashish Buteja, had come to secure admission to the DAV College in Sector 10 here. He was handed over to the police after 23 currency notes of Rs.100 denomination, which he submitted along with rest of his college fees, were found to be fake.
The student was questioned by the police and he told them that he had brought the currency from his hometown Ferozepur, 300 km from here.
The police registered a case and said that further investigations were underway.
“We are looking into the matter to see from where this student got the fake currency,” said a police official in the Sector 3 police station.
