Ludhiana : A suspected terrorist, who opened fire and killed one person at the railway station in this industrial hub of Punjab Tuesday morning was arrested, police said.
According to police officials, the accused, whose identity could not be revealed due to security reasons, was travelling to Pathankot on the Jhelum Express. Police also arrested the suspect’s wife who was accompanying him.
“We are trying to ascertain the reason behind the firing. He just came out of the train coach and started firing in which a vendor was killed and two RPF (Railway Protection Force) officials were injured,” Superintendent of Police Surinder Singh Kalia, who is investigating the case, told IANS.
“We suspect that he might have links with some terrorist outfit. He was in an inebriated condition and that delayed our inquiry process. Our interrogation is on and very soon we will reach some conclusion,” Kalia said.
Meanwhile, police have registered a case against the accused and have seized his luggage and the revolver used in the crime.
Ludhiana, the industrial hub of Punjab, is around 100 km from state capital Chandigarh.
