MI Shanavas, MP, inaugurates relay satyagraha of service organizations in Calicut University

By TwoCircles.net Staff Correspondent,

Kochi: The CPI (M)’s move to politicize the Calicut University won’t bear any fruit, said MI Shanavas, MP. He was inaugurating the relay satyagraha organized by the UDF and service organizations in the Calicut University against the dismissal of registrar PP Muhammed and the torture of lecturers on political reasons. Experiments are on to make the university a branch office of the CPI (M). This should not be allowed in any way, he added.

The relay satryagraha was organized by the Samara Samithi (protest committee), formed of five service organizations like the Solidarity Union of Employees, Staff Organisation, Employees’ Forum, Employees’ Centre and Teachers Association. The satyagraha was held in front of the administrative building. The administrative building remained closed yesterday morning. It was opened only by noon.

The Syndicate meetings of the Calicut University are held without any agenda, accused PK Abdu Rabb, MLA and member of Syndicate. The University is carrying out the agenda of the CPI (M) in a .. manner. He added that protests would be organized inside and outside the campus against this. Kutty Ahmed Kutty, MLA, said that if MA Baby who has no qualities to tbe the Education Minister holds the post, only these types of VC and Syndicate need be expected. The MLAs had come to the Calicut University to express their cooperation for the satyagraha of the service organizations.

Calicut University registrar Dr PP Muhammed was dismissed by the Syndicate on 17th August since he refused to obey the Syndicate’s direction of compulsory retirement. He was suspended by the Syndicate in July 2007 citing various reasons like misuse of official vehicle. However, Mr Muhammed has decided to fight against the Syndicate decision. He told TCN that he would approach the court against ‘the political move of the Communist party’ and ‘the anti-Muslim moves of the LDF government.’
