Malappuram: The Kerala High Court directed the police not to arrest the two boys accused in the case of ‘love jihad’ on Wednesday. Justice Sasidharan Nambiar asked the police not to arrest Shahensha and Sirajudheen till December 8. The case will again be considered on December 8.
Both had approached the court for bail in the man missing case registered by the police. The court made the mention of ‘love jihad’ while considering this case. Justice KT Shankaran ordered the police to investigate and report whether such an organization was functioning in the state and whether girls were being widely converted feigning love. The state DGP had informed the Court in his report that there was no evidence of any organization called ‘love jihad’ functioning in the state. Also there was no evidence for the occurrence of organized forced conversion feigning love. The central Home Ministry submitted its report on the matter last day in the court stating there was no such organization or attempts for organized religious conversion. The report added that the word ‘love jihad’ was used by the media and for rare incidents of love.
The case came into prominence when the court asked the police to investigate on the existence of ‘love jihad’. The case was that the two boys kidnapped and forcefully converted two girls to Islam after feigning love. The girls had reportedly earlier informed the court that they had embraced Islam and married the boys on their own free will, but later changed their stand after staying some days with their parents.
